About the Nashville Youth Wind Ensemble

Comprised of premier student players throughout Middle Tennessee, the Nashville Youth Wind Ensemble (NYWE) provides a high-level, intensive musical opportunity for high school musicians. NYWE is designed to be an enhancing and enriching experience, providing a deeper study of wind band literature that supplements the high school band curriculum. The mission of NYWE is to positively augment instrumental music education, improve studentsâ€™ musical skills, and bring together students from diverse musical backgrounds to perform quality wind literature.

Membership Requirements

Membership Requirements

NYWE is for high school musicians in grades 9â€“12. Advanced 8th grade students may be considered based on teacher recommendation.

Each NYWE member is required to be a local school band or orchestra member if the ensembles exist. However, students who are unable to participate in their school program may be considered under special circumstances.

Students must own their instrument or secure an instrument through their school. Percussionists must own sticks and mallets.

Weekly rehearsals begin Sunday, January 3, from 2 â€“ 4 p.m. at KHS America, 12020 Volunteer Blvd., Mt. Juliet, next to Costco.

- April 4, 11, 18
Concerts are:

Tuition is $225 and is due at the first rehearsal. It provides instruction, music, t-shirts, and technical support for rehearsals, performances, and special projects.

Wind Instruments

Chromatic scale showing your full range
1 – 2 minute section of a technical etude
1 – 2 minute section of a lyrical etude (Mid-State music is great!)

Percussion

1 – 2 minute section of an etude or solo on snare drum (Mid-State music is great!)
1 – 2 minute section of an etude or solo on a mallet instrument (Mid-State music is great!)

Deadline

The audition deadline is Sunday, Nov. 22
Results are released Tuesday, Dec. 1
